It seems like only yesterday when gamers around the globe were left scratching their heads as they tried to log in. For about 20 hours on that fateful Friday and Saturday, many could not access online features or even shop at the PlayStation Store. But fear not, dear players; Sony has stepped forward to clarify what went wrong.
In a social media post late Saturday night, Sony attributed the downtime to an “operational issue.” While it’s understandable that they might want to keep some details under wraps, it would have been comforting for players if they’d elaborated a bit more on what went awry. Nevertheless, they did apologize for any disruption caused during this time.
Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

The official statement read: “Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.” Such words can feel warm in tough times, but one wonders how often similar hiccups will occur in the future.
To make amends for nearly a full day of offline service, PlayStation is offering all PlayStation Plus members five extra days automatically added to their subscriptions. Now that’s something you don’t see every day! It’s nice to see them trying to make up for lost time, even if it may not entirely compensate for those gaming sessions missed over the weekend.
The PSN outage began on February 7 around 6 PM ET, affecting users worldwide. Players quickly took to forums and social media platforms to express their frustration. Many felt isolated without access to their beloved games or online communities. Thankfully by around 3:40 PM ET on February 8, services started coming back online, but not without leaving a few raised eyebrows in its wake about communication from Sony during such outages.
