PlayStation 5 Gets New Firmware Update, Notes and more

Sony’s PlayStation 5 receives another firmware update today, marking an ongoing commitment to providing gamers with the most stable and high-performing console experience. The update, system software version 23.01-07.60.00, has a straightforward agenda: improving system performance.

Weighing just over 1GB, this update is neither hefty nor packed with flashy features. It ensures that your PS5 operates at its best. As stated in the official patch notes from Sony:

“This system software update improves system performance.”

This phrase might sound simple, but it brings cheer, as improved system performance equates to fewer crashes, reduced glitches, and a smoother overall gaming experience. The promise of a more reliable PS5 is always a welcome note for gamers worldwide.

Notably, there is no accompanying DualSense controller update this time around. It is strictly a console-focused update. It’s also worth noting that the update appears to be optional. Still, it should start downloading automatically the next time you power your PS5.

While this update might seem minor, keeping your console up-to-date is always recommended. Consistent updates help maintain optimal functionality, prepare the system for future updates, and often include essential security patches.

To install the update, ensure your PS5 is connected to the internet. When you turn your console on, it should automatically download and install the new update. You can check the update status or manually trigger the update by going to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software > Update Using Internet.
