Physical Redfall copies won’t include a disc [Updated]

Update: According to Bethesda’s official help, the physical retail version of the Redfall Xbox standard edition does come with a Blu-Ray disc. The Bite Back Upgrade can be purchased separately. Within the Bite Back Upgrade, you will find a code that grants you the Bite Back Upgrade in-game items. Owners of the Xbox physical version of Redfall who wish to buy the Bite Back Upgrade can do so either digitally or at participating retailers. The physical retail version of the PC version does not come with a disc of the game. The Xbox standard edition is the only SKU that provides players with a physical disc of the game.

Previous Writing

With the upcoming release of Redfall, fans have been left disappointed to learn that physical copies on PC and Xbox Series X will only feature a download code rather than include an actual disc. Adding further disadvantage is that this change has come just ahead of the launch of Bethesda and Microsoft’s highly anticipated game which features departures from Arkane Studios’ traditional formula with its open-world structure and focus on co-op play, leaving many questioning whether these changes will diminish their typically stellar track record.

Nowadays, a physical copy of a game may become a collector’s item as games move further from said physical copies. However, it is expected that Physical Copies will become extinct relatively faster, and it looks like it already started.

Players of Redfall won’t get the classic physical disc when they purchase a copy, as Bethesda Support has confirmed that editions for PC and Xbox will include digital codes instead. For gamers on Xbox Series X, however, there’s more. The code also unlocks access to play it across both consoles in Microsoft’s new range.

The debate between digital and physical gaming, a long-running rivalry in the industry, has been definitively won by digital. Yet an intrepid few still yearn for tangible games amid concerns about DRM and Redfall’s always-online policy, even when playing alone.
