Paradox Interactive has announced that it will end active support for the historical 4X game Millennia, releasing a final patch approximately 18 months after its initial release and stepping back from community platforms, while the game will remain available for play.
Developed by C Prompt as a more direct rival to Civilization 6 (and an early foil to Civilization 7), Millennia never quite stuck the landing. Paradox claims this update is the game’s final one. Paradox’s message to players was blunt and polite: “With this patch, we are sadly coming to the end of an age. This will be the final patch for Millennia, thanks to C Prompt for their work and support of this game. We at Paradox will no longer be active on community platforms for Millennia, but you can continue counting on us for support needs, and the game will remain available to play indefinitely.”
Millennia update 8 is out now. You can read the full rundown of fixes, localization changes, and mod support improvements on the Paradox forums.
Players reacted quickly on Steam. Recent reviews have tumbled since the announcement: “This was my promising Civ 4 replacement,” one user wrote, “but sadly abandoned by Paradox before it could mature.” Part of Millennia’s struggle is timing. Rivals are seeing meaningful updates: early chatter around Civ 7 patch 1.2.5 sounds like a step forward, Ara’s 2.0 update addresses big player requests, and the launch of Endless Legend 2 has grabbed attention even if it’s early access for now.
