Overwatch 2 season 2 brings Sierra, old-school accolades, and a fresh round of cosmetics

Season 2: Summit adds new DPS hero Sierra on April 14, along with Operation: Grand Mesa, map changes, Mythic skins, Stadium updates, and more across the spring window.

Overwatch 2 is heading into Season 2: Summit with a lot more than one new face. Blizzard introduced Sierra, a new DPS hero who joins the roster on April 14, alongside a three-week limited-time event, a reworked Antarctic Peninsula, new Mythic skins, Stadium updates, and a fresh batch of cosmetics.

The season puts Sierra at the center of the story. Blizzard describes her as Watchpoint: Grand Mesa’s former head of security, someone who fought Talon in the past and is now tied directly to Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes through her family history. She brings a rifle, a combat drone named Dorothy, and a personality built around confidence and momentum.

Alongside her debut, Operation: Grand Mesa will run from April 14 through May 4. The event will let players earn lore through play, complete curated challenges, and work through four distinct stages tracked with a special UI. Rewards include voice lines, an icon, a name card, a rare title, a spray, Battle Pass tier skips, and loot boxes.

One of the more welcome returns in the season is Post Match Accolades. After Play of the Game, players will get a short voting window to recognize a teammate or opponent who stood out, with the MVP getting a dynamic animated spotlight before the match ends. Blizzard says the feature is meant to make the wrap-up feel more personal and give credit to things that do not always show up in the scoreboard.

Map, Mythic, and Stadium updates

The Antarctic Peninsula map is also getting a rework aimed at cleaner fights and better flank options. Icebreaker will lean harder into the ship theme with new routes toward the point, Research Station will open up its main choke and add a back flank, and Underground will get higher ceilings, simpler layouts, and clearer staging areas.

Season 2 also brings two Mythic skins. Soldier: 76 gets Volted Overdrive, his first Mythic skin, with four upgrade tiers that add toggleable visual effects, new hairstyles, extra colorways, and ambient VFX. Genji gets the Sumi-ichimonji Mythic Weapon Skin, built around ink-calligraphy styling, reactive effects, flourish animations, and a kill VFX at the final tier.

Stadium is getting its own batch of changes. Ramattra will join the mode, Juno will be reworked for balance and reliability, Lijiang Night Market will arrive as a new Control map, and Blizzard says seasonal resets will give way to a decay system for smoother competitive transitions. Jetpack Cat is also due to show up in Stadium at midseason.

Perks, spring skins, and returning collabs

A small perk refresh is coming with new options for several heroes. Ramattra gets Prolonged Barrier, Pharah gets a new perk that can push Concussive Blast up to 50 explosion damage, Reaper gets Trigger Finger, Soldier: 76 gets Agility Training, and Mercy gets Double Dose.

The seasonal cosmetic lineup starts on April 14 with the Sakura Collection, which runs through May 4 and includes themed looks for Hanzo, Genji, Freja, Juno, Emre, and Junker Queen. Overwatch x LE SSERAFIM is also returning from April 14 through April 27 with all 15 Legendary skins from the collaboration, including FEARLESS, Blue Flame, and the original set.

Blizzard is also selling the season’s Battle Passes around the new Mythics. The Premium track includes Legendary Spring Fairies Ashe, Lifeweaver, Moira, Wuyang, and Echo, while the Ultimate version adds Spring Fairy Illari and Painter Sierra along with 20 tier skips and 2,000 Overwatch Coins.

There is one more platform note buried in the season update. Blizzard says Overwatch will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 with improved visuals, higher-fidelity audio, and up to 60 FPS in docked and handheld play.

Season 2: Summit is packing a lot into one launch window, and Sierra looks like the thread tying most of it together. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram for more coverage.
