Once Human, the free-to-play survival adventure shooter, just got a fresh injection of player freedom with the arrival of custom, dedicated servers. This update is a big deal because it hands the reins over to the community, letting them twist the game into whatever experience they want, whether that’s a chill building sim or a hardcore survival challenge.
Developer NetEase Games officially supports the custom servers. The company hopes that players will use these private spaces to “push the boundaries of the Once Human experience,” making it as cozy or as brutal as they like. The servers let hosts switch between all official PvE and PvP modes, and there’s talk of adding mod support and distinct private server scenarios down the line.
Customization options run deep here. You can fiddle with weather patterns, day-night cycles, character stats, experience gains, resource respawn speeds, and even how fast buildings can be constructed and maintained. It’s kinda like giving you the ultimate survival sandbox toolbox.
Purchasing and running these servers happens through a dedicated in-game interface. The data for private servers stays separate from the main game’s backend, and server owners get full control over who joins their worlds. Mods will be supported once they become available, giving even more room for creativity.
Besides the servers, NetEase also announced a YouTube stream for July 2, where they’ll reveal the Once Human 2.0 update. Expect a new roadmap, unveiling the following scenario, and details on gameplay tweaks, system upgrades, and community events. Fans of the PvP spinoff Once Human: Raidzone will also get updates ahead of its July launch.
Who doesn’t want to run their own version of a survival game, tweaking the rules until it feels just right? I’m curious how wild or chill these private servers will get once mod support kicks in. What kind of custom worlds would you build if you had total control?
