Old School RuneScape is showing no signs of slowing down more than a decade after its release. The 2013 classic recently hit a milestone of over 200,000 concurrent players, a number that’s got Jagex scrambling to add more servers. This change is designed to keep the game running smoothly as its popularity surges again, thanks to content creators giving the game a fresh life.
Still Powerful
RuneScape originally launched back in 2001, carving out a niche as a favorite MMORPG. Nostalgia plays a big role in its current resurgence, as many players seek to relive the early days of online gaming. Jagex acknowledged hitting that 200,000 player mark on social media, expressing gratitude to the community for sticking with OSRS despite the crowded gaming market.

In a follow-up post, the devs confirmed they’ve upgraded the backend infrastructure to add more worlds. This is a move to handle the growing playerbase and prepare for the upcoming release of Varlamore: The Final Dawn. Jagex is clearly expecting even more players to log in soon.
