It’s the ninth anniversary of No Man’s Sky, and Hello Games has released Voyagers 6.0 today, free to existing Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Game Pass players. The update adds buildable large multi-crew starships with full interiors and lets friends join your crew to travel together across the galaxy.
Voyagers introduces the ability to design and assemble your own large starships from the ground up, including interior spaces you can move through – med-bays, sleeping quarters, common areas and more. Crew members can join your ship, walk about while you fly, and decorate rooms as you go. Who wouldn’t want to wander a starship mid-flight?
That walking-while-flying idea brought a host of technology questions for the small team at Hello Games. They had to think about relative space, fast travel, and how to keep multiple players synced while a ship is moving at high speed. The net result is that crewmates can share the same interior spaces and interact while the ship is in motion – a neat bit of engineering.
Players can invite friends to join their voyage, hand over pilot duties, or set the ship to autopilot and relax in common areas as planets drift by. The update also brings a collection of quality of life improvements and other tweaks across the game, all bundled in version 6.0. Oh, it’s a big milestone for the team.
If you want to pick up or revisit No Man’s Sky, you can find it on the Microsoft Store. Get No Man’s Sky on the Microsoft Store.
Hello Games also mentioned that work on their new project, Light No Fire, is progressing well, and both projects are mutually beneficial. The developers say Voyagers is a foundation they plan to build on in future updates – a solid start to a new direction for ship-based play.
Version 6.0 is available now and is free for existing players. If you’ve been away, this might be a nice reason to jump back in and see what new shared moments you can build with friends on your own custom ship.
