Nintendo has announced that it will discontinue the Nintendo Switch Game Voucher service on January 30, 2026. This means players won’t be able to buy the vouchers anymore after that date, which is a bummer if you loved snagging multiple games at a discount using this system.
For those who don’t know, the Switch Game Voucher allowed players to pay upfront for two vouchers at a reduced price, currently $99.98 for two games that usually cost $59.99 each. It’s a neat way to save around $20 on popular titles like Super Mario Party Jamboree or Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Honestly, I always thought it was a pretty sweet deal for anyone who knew what games they wanted to pick up.
Nintendo has also confirmed that any vouchers purchased before the service ends will expire 12 months after their purchase date. So, if you grab a set on January 30, 2026, you’ll have until January 30, 2027, to redeem them. It’s kinda important to keep track of that, or you might lose out on your savings.
It’s not clear if Nintendo will introduce something similar for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Given how the company has been expanding its classic games library, especially with GameCube titles like Super Mario Strikers, F-Zero GX, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, it feels like they might be shifting focus to other subscription perks instead.
The Game Voucher service was a key part of Nintendo’s paid online program, alongside the classic game catalog and the more recent Game Chat feature. So, it’ll be interesting to see how Nintendo changes its subscription offerings moving forward. Will they replace vouchers with new benefits? Only time will tell.
