We might be on the brink of something exciting with the Nintendo Switch 2. According to Mat Piscatella, the executive director of video games at market research firm Circana, if Nintendo launches its next console in the first half of 2025, it could sell over 4.3 million units in the United States alone. That’s quite a hefty number! He shared these insights on Bluesky just the other day.
Piscatella has some interesting predictions about the competition, too. While he expects a robust start for the Switch 2, he believes that this year’s best-selling console will still be the PlayStation 5. “With an announcement seemingly coming soon—though who can say for sure—I predict Nintendo’s next hardware selling around 4.3 million units in the US during 2025,” he noted.
Piscatella also mentioned that we might see hardware shortages due to high demand initially as production ramps up. Manufacturing capabilities are tested. Circana will release a detailed outlook for 2025 later this month after they crunch December sales data on January 23. Just recently, they reported that the original Nintendo Switch surpassed PS2’s lifetime sales, which is quite impressive!
The current Switch has sold around 46.6 million units, placing it second in all-time unit sales across video game hardware platforms in the U.S., only behind another classic, the Nintendo DS. Isn’t it wild how these consoles keep breaking records?
If you’re wondering when we might finally get our hands on this new console wonderland, Nintendo hasn’t officially unveiled any details yet but has promised us news sometime before their fiscal year wraps up on March 31, 2025. Oh, and speaking of excitement at conventions like CES this week, accessory maker Genki showed off what they claim is an accurate replica of what could be our system!
