The talk about the Nintendo Switch 2 has been constantly growing, especially since its launch date was confirmed for June 5, 2025 launch date. However, a recent statement from Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Player and Product Experience, Bill Trinen, has thrown some cold water on those hopes: the new console won’t feature achievements. This news comes after many gamers speculated that Nintendo might finally jump on the achievements bandwagon.
In an interview with Polygon, Trinen straightforwardly responded that the Nintendo Switch 2 would include this popular feature found in many other gaming systems: “Nope.” It isn’t enjoyable for those who hope to track their progress as they can on platforms such as PlayStation or Xbox.
Interestingly enough, there had been some hope when it was announced that titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom would have achievement-like features available through the Nintendo Switch app. While you can earn them, they won’t be displayed directly on your console, so don’t expect to compare trophies with friends anytime soon.
This doesn’t mean all is lost for fans craving achievements on their new system. Third-party developers still have options; they could implement their achievement systems, like EA with titles like Madden 26 or EA Sports FC through EA Accounts. Unfortunately, players won’t have the tools to showcase their accomplishments directly via the console.
As mentioned earlier, pre-orders for this highly expected system will open globally around April 8/9, except in the U.S., where tariffs have prompted delays in preorder availability. What do you think about Nintendo’s decision not to include achievements? Let us know in the comments below!
