The latest word on the street is that Ubisoft is quietly working on a new Ghost Recon game, with an anticipated 2026 release. This one is said to focus on a more realistic, tactical first-person shooter experience, marking a notable shift from the last entry, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
According to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who is known for providing reliable Ubisoft information, the project will enter “internal alpha” testing this fall. Development is expected to ramp up significantly as the year closes, with roughly a year planned from alpha phase to full release.
It seems Ubisoft might be trying to reboot the franchise with a grounded approach after Breakpoint didn’t quite meet expectations in 2019. The goal is reportedly to create a tactical shooter that feels more authentic and interesting, while ditching some of the previous game’s more controversial design choices.
Do you think a return to realism will bring the series back to its former glory? What would you want from a new Ghost Recon game? I’m curious to hear your thoughts — drop a comment below and let’s chat about it.
