The next Battlefield game has reportedly progressed from its pre-alpha phase into alpha, signaling steady development progress. Several playtesters involved with the “Battlefield Labs” sessions confirmed to Insider Gaming that the watermark and labeling now read “Alpha” instead of “Pre-Alpha.” This shift follows a sizable update that also included new files related to a Battle Royale mode.
While the Battle Royale mode isn’t playable yet, the presence of these files suggests it might be tested in future “Battlefield Labs” playtests. Images shared under strict non-disclosure agreements show two squads of four battling in what looks like an abandoned factory, alongside scenes of soldiers looting weapons through a hole in a wall, and teams landing with colorful parachutes near high-rise buildings.
It’s interesting to see the game making such solid headway. Sources suggest an official reveal trailer could arrive within the next two months, possibly before Gamescom in August. EA might even hand the reveal to Geoff Keighley at Opening Night Live, which would be quite the event.
What do you think about the next Battlefield game’s return to current military combat and the teased Battle Royale mode? I’m curious to hear your thoughts in the comments below — do you think this new mode will add something interesting to the series?
