New Starfield Mod Aims to Make NPCs More Realistic

Starfield, the popular role-playing game by Bethesda, has received a new mod thanks to nexstephen. The mod focuses on enhancing the behavior of the game’s non-player characters (NPCs), making them act more like real people rather than robotic video game assets. The mod promises to address some common issues players have with NPC interactions, ranging from awkward stares to unrealistic conversation patterns.

The mod is inspired by a similar add-on for another Bethesda game, Fallout 4. Known as the Realistic Conversations Mod, it aimed to make dialogues and interactions in the game more natural. Drawing from that foundation, nexstephen has worked to create a Starfield-specific mod that advances the same ideals but is tailored to Starfield’s unique universe and setting.

This new mod, named “Better Conversations,” packs several improvements. For example, NPCs will no longer give you odd, lingering stares or shout at you from a distance. They won’t rudely interrupt you when you’re speaking and will avoid making unsolicited comments about your activities. You can download the mod from NexusMods.

But it’s not just about what the NPCs won’t do; it’s also about what they will do. They’ll display a wider range of emotions, blink less frequently (a surprisingly notable detail), and interact more with other NPCs. During combat situations, they will even taunt you, adding an extra layer of immersion to the gameplay.

The modder notes that the mod is mainly compatible with other mods, although there could be some conflict with mods that aim to change NPC behavior. These conflicting mods will take precedence if run simultaneously with Better Conversations.
