Sony has pushed a new PlayStation 5 system update, version 25.07-12.20.00, and yes, it arrives as a relatively modest 1.319GB download. There are no dramatic feature overhauls here, but there are a few practical additions worth noting, most importantly, the ability to view serial numbers on the console and connected DualSense controllers, and stability updates for the DualSense Edge and messaging screens.
The update follows the recent 25.06-12.00.00 rollout that added DualSense pairing and a power saver mode, and can be installed now. For the official details and complete system software notes, see the PlayStation support page on system software info.
Here are the full patch notes straight from Sony:
Patch Notes – 25.07-12.20.00
- You can now use your console to check the serial number of your console, and of DualSense wireless controllers that are currently connected via USB or Bluetooth.
- For your console, select Settings > System > System Software > Console Information, and then check Serial Number.
- For a DualSense wireless controller, select Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings > View Serial Number.
- We’ve updated the device software of the DualSense Edge wireless controller to improve stability.
- We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
So, the headline here is utility: the console can now display serial numbers natively, which is handy if troubleshooting, registering products, or checking warranty details without digging out boxes or invoices. The DualSense Edge stability tweak should please competitive players who rely on that accessory, and the messaging/usability touches are the kind of small polish that pile up into a smoother experience.
