Neil Druckmann, the Vice President and celebrated director at Naughty Dog, is working on another game, according to a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. The director, who previously helmed iconic titles such as The Last of Us Part 2, remained tight-lipped when asked about the highly speculated third installment in the series.
Druckmann discussed the upcoming HBO series adaptation of The Last of Us, but his elusive comment on a new game project caught everyone’s attention. “As far as the next game at Naughty Dog, I can’t say anything. My comms director over there will slaughter me,” he said. The careful wording, emphasizing “next game,” leaves much to be deciphered.
While Druckmann has previously teased something at last year’s Summer Game Fest, details have been scant. The ambiguity of his recent statements has only fueled ongoing rumors about The Last of Us Part 3. But the use of the term “next game” instead of explicitly naming the series has many wondering whether Naughty Dog is diverting its focus to a new title altogether.
It’s worth noting that Naughty Dog is also actively developing a standalone multiplayer title related to The Last of Us series. However, according to leaks, this project is being re-evaluated, with the development team being scaled back.
