NBA 2K26 is just around the corner, launching on August 29 for those who grab the Superstar or Leave No Doubt Edition. 2K Sports has now given us a peek at the game’s MyCareer mode with a fresh trailer that’s all about story and atmosphere rather than gameplay or city features.
Called Out of Bounds, this year’s career mode starts players off in Vermont as an aspiring basketball player. The journey involves making choices that determine whether you’ll make it to the NBA. The trailer is narrated by none other than Spike Lee, who also voices the mode throughout, lending a cinematic vibe to the whole experience.
Interestingly, the trailer focuses heavily on the narrative and cutscenes instead of showing actual gameplay or how the mode ties into The City. Guess they want to set the tone first, and maybe the gameplay details will come later. It’s a bit of a climb to stand out in the MyCareer scene, but perhaps this approach will work.
You can watch the trailer below and see what’s on offer for yourself:
NBA 2K26 will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, and PC. For those chasing next-gen features, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC versions will have them. Wonder if the Switch 2 will deliver on those promises, but hey, it’s something to look forward to.
More details about MyCareer are expected soon, so keep your eyes open. Who knows, maybe Spike Lee’s involvement will give this mode a bit of extra flair that’s been missing for a while.
What do you think? Will the story-heavy approach be enough to pull players back into MyCareer, or are you waiting for the actual gameplay? Let’s chat in the comments below.
