Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed that the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, won’t shift FromSoftware’s focus away from its hallmark single-player experiences.
During a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, FromSoftware revealed The Duskbloods, which is designed primarily as a multiplayer game. As part of the ongoing Nintendo Creator’s Voice series, Miyazaki elaborated on the game and his interest in the PvPvE genre—a structure he finds “very interesting.” He stated, “It allows for a broad range of game-design ideas while also letting us design challenging enemy encounters.”
This new title began life as an original Nintendo Switch project before being shifted to develop for the more powerful Switch 2 following Nintendo’s approach to FromSoftware.
Miyazaki quickly clarified that this does not mean FromSoftware will abandon its roots in single-player gaming. “As previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn’t mean we’ve decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward,” he explained. The director reaffirmed that they continue developing games like Elden Ring, prioritizing traditional gameplay styles.
The upcoming title will feature over a dozen characters, all customizable. A notable addition is a rat-like creature seen at the trailer’s end; it will provide players guidance much like fire keepers do in Dark Souls. “They remain in the hub area providing advice and guidance,” said Miyazaki. “I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in spirit of our partnership.” He even humorously added that this character is meant to be “an elderly gentleman.”
The Duskbloods has been set for release in 2026.
