MindsEye’s Promised Hitman Level for PS5 Faces Delay Amid Studio Challenges

Build a Rocket Boy delays Hitman crossover level for MindsEye on PS5 amid layoffs and patch plans.

MindsEye developer Build a Rocket Boy has announced a delay for the much-anticipated Hitman crossover level originally planned for release this month on PS5. This update matters because it affects fans who were looking forward to playing as Agent 47 in a new mission designed by the studio, which has faced major challenges lately.

The mission featuring Agent 47 has been postponed indefinitely and will not arrive as scheduled. The developer shared on Twitter that they look forward to delivering the crossover “when the time is right” and promised to provide updates when possible. It’s a tough spot for the studio, especially since MindsEye has struggled since launch and is considered a big failure on PS5.

Why might this delay be happening? Build a Rocket Boy is currently undergoing layoffs, with redundancy processes underway. The studio’s lead developers have expressed a desire to create a “redemption arc” for MindsEye, similar to what No Man’s Sky experienced, but with so many employees leaving, it’s uncertain who will be left to work on these plans.

Alongside the delay, two patches are planned for MindsEye in August and September. Next month’s update will introduce the ability to skip cutscenes on PS5, a feature many players will appreciate. The September patch will focus on continued performance and gameplay improvements across all platforms, as well as enhancements to core gameplay mechanics. These updates might help the game feel a bit better, but they don’t change the fact that the promised Hitman mission won’t be arriving soon.

The collaboration with Hitman became possible because IO Interactive, the publisher of MindsEye, also develops the Hitman games. The crossover was meant to be a highlight for the game’s post-launch content, giving players a chance to step into Agent 47’s shoes in a fresh mission.

Will this mission ever actually come out? That’s the big question. With layoffs and an uncertain future for the studio, it’s hard to say. The situation feels a bit like a cliffhanger, and I’m curious if Build a Rocket Boy will manage to pull off the redemption they hope for.
