Microsoft has denied claims that US retailers, including Target and Walmart, have started removing Xbox products from their shelves, after a string of posts on Reddit and social media suggested stores were clearing Xbox stock. The thread began with a Reddit post from a user who said their local Target had removed Xbox games. The post prompted other users to share similar reports and images, and one Redditor posted a photo showing an empty run of cases on a shelf on the Xbox Reddit page.
Former IGN video editor Destin Legarie said he called his local Walmart and Target, and that neither store had heard anything about pulling Xbox stock. He shared that update on X in a post that reads as a direct check with stores.
I just called my local Walmart to ask if they were discontinuing or pulling Xbox stock.
They said "at least to my knowledge I haven't heard anything about like clearing inventory or anything like that. Or about being discontinued."
They also said still have them in stock. https://t.co/I4HsUcmzlL

Another related post from Legarie, which confirms he called Costco and did find it had stopped carrying Xbox consoles, showed that the earlier Costco reports were a separate matter.
Just called Costco about Xbox stock. I was told that they will no longer be carrying Xbox consoles. “We don’t have any plans going forward to carry an Xbox console.” Saying. It was a business decision.
They did say they have some great deals on Switch & PlayStation, though.

Larry Hryb, known as Major Nelson, also visited a few stores and said he found Xbox hardware and games for sale.
All I know is I went to a couple of Target and GameStop stores this week, and did find Xbox hardware and games for sale.

Now Microsoft has issued a statement denying the claims. The company told Windows Central that “Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.” The company says stores continue to sell Xbox products. Some retail managers are taking down entire sections or reducing shelf space for physical game media as more players opt for digital formats. That can make it appear as though a product line is discontinued when, in fact, a store is simply reallocating space to systems or titles that are moving faster, such as the Switch 2 or PS5.
Please share your local store experiences or questions on X, Bluesky or our YouTube channel. Margarita would love to hear what you found on the shelf or at the counter.
