Mewgenics reached a new concurrent player peak of 115,428 on February 15, 2026, making it the most-played roguelike ever and surpassing Hades II, which peaked at 112,947 players in September 2025.
The indie roguelike from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel has started strong in its first week on Steam. Metacritic currently lists the game at 89 with an overall user score of 8.0. By comparison, Hades II sits at 95 on Metacritic with a user score of 8.6. A Twitter post highlighting Mewgenics’ new peak came from user Awk20000 and captured the milestone as it happened.

Edmund McMillen said he was surprised by the early success and noted the game remains in development across multiple platforms with console releases targeted in the future. McMillen has also responded publicly to criticism over casting choices for the game’s voice actors.
Questions about lasting player interest will come as post-launch support and platform rollouts unfold. For now, Mewgenics’ peak concurrent players put it ahead of other recent roguelikes in raw Steam traffic.
