Konami is still working out what comes after Metal Gear Solid Delta, according to series producer Noriaki Okamura, who told Real Sound the company is “still in the stage of thinking about what to make next.” Okamura said the studio is weighing options that could include more remakes or something entirely new now that Metal Gear Solid Delta has opened the series to a fresh audience, and he floated the idea that each title may need its own bespoke approach rather than reusing the same remake formula.
That comment came as Konami faces practical hurdles with some entries. When asked about remaking Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Okamura said the PS3 hardware at the time required unusual designs and that MGS4’s code was “quite unconventional,” adding that bringing it over today “would be a real challenge.”
The remarks flesh out a cautious line Konami has taken since Delta’s release. The remake has put the franchise back in the headlines and helped it find new players, a trend visible in our coverage of Metal Gear Solid Delta hitting one million sales in its first 24 hours, and they come alongside quieter dramas like Hideo Kojima saying he won’t play the remake, which we detailed in our report on Kojima’s comments. Okamura also pointed to the reality that many original staff members have moved on and that teams were restructured to get Delta made, so future projects will depend on assembling the right people and the right technical plan.
For fans hoping for straightforward remakes across the board, the takeaway is that Konami is taking a title-by-title view. Some games may be easier to modernize, others may demand complex code translation or engine work, and in a few cases the company may opt for new projects rather than direct remakes.
