Marvel Snap Unavailable in the U.S. Following TikTok Ban

Marvel Snap faces shutdown in the U.S. due to government actions against TikTok.

Marvel Snap, the competitive digital collectible card game created by Second Dinner, has vanished from the U.S. This abrupt disappearance is tied to the government’s ban on TikTok, as the parent company of this popular app also owns Marvel Snap’s publisher, Nuverse.

For many players, it’s been a confusing and frustrating experience. They logged on, ready for another round of card-slinging action, only to find their beloved game inactive without any prior warning from developers.

The timeline of events took a sharp turn on January 18, 2025, when TikTok went dark across America following a newly enacted law banning the platform. With this move came restrictions affecting all apps associated with ByteDance, leading to an unexpected halt for Marvel Snap.

U.S. players attempting to access the game are met with a message that feels eerily similar to what TikTok users are experiencing:

“Sorry, Marvel Snap isn’t available right now. A law banning Marvel Snap has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, you can’t use Marvel Snap for now. Rest assured, we’re working to restore our service in the U.S. Please stay tuned!” Whether trying mobile or PC, players have been met with this frustrating reality; even accessing the game’s website proves impossible.

If you check out Google Play store listings? Nope! The game doesn’t show up there either, it’s like it never existed! A notification states downloads for ByteDance applications are “paused due to current U.S. legal requirements.” Talk about a major bummer!

In response to this chaos, Second Dinner expressed surprise at how swiftly external political decisions impacted their game’s availability. On X (formerly Twitter), they reassured fans: “Marvel Snap isn’t going anywhere,” emphasizing they’re actively working hard behind-the-scenes to get things back on track and will update everyone when there’s news.
