Marvel Rivals has announced an interesting new addition to its universe, a one-shot comic titled Marvel Rivals: Ignite #1, which will hit comic book shops on June 11th. This initiative brings together stories from talented Japanese comic book artists, some of whom have already contributed character designs featured in the game.
This comic will showcase three stories featuring characters in head-to-head battles. Fans can expect Sai (Psylocke) to face off against Venom, Luna Snow to venture to Asgard to take on Hela, and Punisher to go “face-to-face” with Peni Parker. The announcement highlights contributions from notable artists like Peach Momoko, Yuji Kaku, Mitsuyasu Sakai, and Ryusei Yamada.
Peach Momoko is writing and illustrating the story between Venom and Sai. Known for her distinctive style that reimagines Marvel characters through a Japanese folktale lens, she has made waves in the comic scene with her work on the Ultimate X-Men series and distinct character skins for Marvel Rivals. It’s rumored that these skins may launch around the same time as the comic release.
Manga artist Yuji Kaku will handle the Punisher versus Peni Parker saga. Although relatively new to Marvel projects, he gained recognition for his acclaimed manga Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, which recently received an anime adaptation. Meanwhile, writer Mitsuyasu Sakai collaborates with artist Ryusei Yamada on Luna Snow’s encounter with Hela; Sakai’s extensive experience includes scripting episodes for various animated series.
The recent announcement from Marvel suggests that more one-shot comics inspired by Marvel Rivals could follow in future months. Are you planning to pick up Marvel Rivals: Ignite #1?
