Bungie’s Marathon will arrive on March 6, 2026, and the studio is rolling out a slate of launch details for the multiplayer PvPvE survival extraction shooter. Marathon will release on PlayStation 5, Steam for PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

Players take the role of a bio-cybernetic Runner. Matches let you team up in crews of three or go it alone while facing hostile security forces, rival Runners, and the environment. The game centers on scavenging derelict facilities and wild landscapes for weapons, mods, valuables, and story fragments that explain what happened to the lost colony on Tau Ceti IV.

Trailer, factions, and Cryo Archive

PlayStation posted a new gameplay trailer narrated by Gantry, the faction agent for the anti-establishment group MIDA. Marathon features six factions, each offering unique contracts that unlock story and rewards through their own faction upgrade trees. The studio says players will use faction upgrades, weapons, mods, Runner shells, and implants to progress toward end-game content including the Cryo Archive, which unlocks in Season 1.

The Cryo Archive location is shown in the trailers and can be viewed directly at this clip on YouTube.

Limited Edition DualSense details

PlayStation revealed a Marathon Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller created with Bungie. The controller features bold graphics and fractured shapes inspired by Marathon’s world and was designed to fit visually alongside in-game objects and equipment. Bungie commented on the design process, saying:

“We were excited for the opportunity to commemorate Marathon’s launch with a limited edition design that would excite our fans and our team, and feel like a true part of the world we’re building, something that could exist naturally alongside other objects in the game and feel functional, grounded, and authentic to the universe of Marathon.

We set out to create a design that paid homage to the bold graphic design, vibrant color and visual art direction of the game and its industrial design, architecture and environmental surfaces and equipment. The result is a design that reflects the world’s balance of form and function, where clean lines, purposeful markings, and vivid accents come together to feel both futuristic and believable.”

The Marathon Limited Edition DualSense launches starting March 6, 2026, and will be sold in limited quantities in Southeast Asia. Regional launch pricing is listed as SGD 119, MYR 419, THB 2,890, IDR 1,549,000, PHP 4,890, and VND 2,399,000. Pre-orders begin January 29, 2026 at participating retailers. Launch date and availability may vary by country and region.

Pre-orders, editions, and Collector’s Edition

Marathon will be sold as a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes the Midnight Decay weapon and Runner shell cosmetic bundle plus additional rewards. Pre-ordering Marathon unlocks in-game weapon cosmetics and additional rewards for Destiny 2 when linked to a Bungie.net account.

Bungie also revealed a Collector’s Edition available from the developer. The Collector’s Edition includes a premium unboxing inspired by Sekiguchi Genetics’ shell-weaving process, a 1/6-scale Thief Runner Shell statue, a collectible miniature WEAVEworm, digital rewards, and more. Bungie posted full Collector’s Edition details at this link.

Welcome Hub background and pre-order access

A new Marathon Welcome Hub background goes live on PlayStation 5 on January 20, 2026. PlayStation provides steps to enable the new background at their support page. Pre-orders and wishlists are available now on PlayStation at the Marathon page. To join developer conversation and community updates, Marathon’s official Discord is available at Marathon Official Discord. Bungie says the team will share launch roadmap details and more information about when players will be able to try Marathon. Note Bungie.net account and internet connection are required. Paid PlayStation Plus membership is required for online play on PS5 where applicable. Actual retailer prices and availability may vary.
