People Can Fly will release Lost Rift in Steam Early Access on September 25, a survival-crafting game set across a tropical archipelago that mixes base-building with first-person shooting. This matters because the studio behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm is promising both PvE story content and competitive extraction expeditions for $25.
Lost Rift strands players on Pioneer’s Landing, where they gather resources, chop palm trees, and build a beachside base while scavenging food like coconuts for sustenance. The project is from People Can Fly, creators of Painkiller and Bulletstorm, and it combines survival staples with a nimble first-person shooter loop that includes an array of rusted, chunky firearms and a PvE narrative about scientists chasing interdimensional anomalies.
There are some striking touches, including a huge monkey that can dynamically hunt players, and a PvP extraction mode where crews sail between islands to raid unstable locations under a time limit. Players will have to move fast to grab loot and fight other crews. It’s kinda a blend of classic tropical shooting and survival crafting, and the trailer gives a clear look at the tone and systems.
People Can Fly says the Early Access launch will cost $25 and include at least 10 hours of PvE play alongside the multiplayer expeditions. The studio previously released Outriders, and the company trimmed staff late last year, an announcement that noted it had laid off around 120 people as it reduced some in-development projects.
Lost Rift is available for wishlisting now on Steam at https://store.steampowered.com/app/3494520/Lost_Rift/, and the studio aims to expand the game from there during Early Access.
