Layoffs have occurred at Starbreeze Studios, the developer of Payday 3, with multiple employees posting on LinkedIn on Wednesday saying their roles were affected. Starbreeze has not yet issued an official statement about the cuts.
QA Alexander Pereswetoff-Morath wrote on LinkedIn, “Today, many of us at Starbreeze, Stockholm, got sad news and I’m now seeking a new role and would appreciate your support. After over 7 years, the longest I’ve ever been at any company in any industry, my time has (more than likely) come.”
Senior Tech Producer Sabina af Jochnick also posted, “Due to the recent layoffs at Starbreeze, my role has been identified as at risk of redundancy, so I’m beginning to look at what’s next.” Payday 3 launched in 2023 and met widespread criticism and player departures. Despite the reduced investment, the studio continued to release updates. The most recent patch, Update 3.1 on January 13, added the “Shopping Spree” heist and a number of balance changes, according to the Payday 3 Steam news post here. The layoffs follow other restructuring moves at the studio. Earlier reporting noted Starbreeze canceled a Dungeons and Dragons live service project codenamed Baxter and said it would redeploy resources to the PAYDAY franchise, that story is available here.
