Escape from Tarkov is not available on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series consoles, but Battlestate Games confirmed in 2025 that a console version is in development. The studio head, Nikita Buyanov, mentioned the idea during a podcast and later repeated a similar point in public comments, signaling that Battlestate has started work on a console edition of Tarkov alongside other projects in the EFT universe. A summary of the podcast discussion was noted in a Reddit thread and an earlier remark appears in a YouTube interview with Buyanov.
Development will focus on making the core Tarkov systems usable with a controller, which Battlestate described as a smaller, more accessible version of the main game rather than a straight port. The studio has said the console edition would likely strip back some complexity so movement, weapon handling, and looting work without extensive keyboard and mouse inputs.
Several practical hurdles have kept Tarkov on PC until now. The game’s punishing balance, high-precision combat, and not to mention the amount of keybinds the game has… Consoles can support keyboard and mouse in some setups, but Battlestate and other studios weigh control schemes and anti-cheat differently when targeting consoles. That debate has also been part of wider platform discussions involving major publishers and Xbox studios, which have been rethinking how and where they release big titles.
Battlestate has also suggested that smaller, session-based products from the Tarkov team could arrive on consoles sooner. Escape from Tarkov: Arena, a pared-down, multiplayer session title released in 2023, is an obvious candidate for consoles because its scope and match structure are easier to adapt to controller play. The studio did not announce a release date or confirmed platforms beyond the general console plans in 2025, and it said crossplay between PC and console is unlikely because of balance and input differences. Players should expect a phased approach that starts with a limited, controller-friendly build rather than a full parity release on launch.
