IO Interactive says 007 First Light’s combat is inspired by the Daniel Craig Bond films

Creative director Hakan Abrak says the upcoming origin story will lean on Daniel Craig-era movement and acrobatics, aiming for a dynamic, parkour-like Bond rather than an already-hardened super agent.

IO Interactive says the upcoming origin story 007 First Light borrows movement and combat cues from the Daniel Craig era of Bond films, and that matters because it helps shape how this younger Bond moves and fights. Creative Director Hakan Abrak told Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar+) that the team didn’t want a straight copy but did want the character to feel “moving, dynamic and acrobatic, almost like the parkour at the start of Casino Royale.” That description tells you the game will favor physical, on-the-move encounters over static firefights.

Abrak adds they’re avoiding the idea of Bond as an already invincible figure. He cited the example of older films, where Bond appears fully formed and unshakable, and noted that the studio sought a more relatable origin story. IO Interactive has previously leaned on Daniel Craig references in early demos; the actor’s head was placed on Agent 47’s body during that first showcase, and the team is shaping combat around believable movement and close-quarters physicality rather than fantasy-level power.

The game’s cast is coming together, too. Gemma Chan has been confirmed for the project. The developers have also been clear that 007 First Light isn’t a Hitman “reskin”, stressing distinct goals for tone and movement.
