Intel and TSMC say Chip Shortage could extend until 2022

It appears that Intel and TSMC, the largest chipmakers in the globe, have discovered that the chip shortage we’re facing today might continue until 2022. That is a whole new year with chip shortage, or better said, without a brand new technology that will empower your gaming experience.

In a recent earnings call briefing, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company CEO C.C Wei has told the investors that the chip shortage will continue in 2022. The chip shortage for its auto clients, however, would be reduced starting from the next quarter.

On the other side, Intel’s new CEO noticed it would take a couple of years to abate. In a recent interview with Washington Post, Pay Gelsinger has brought the same concerns to life, confirming that the chip shortage might continue to 2022, no matter how hard both companies are trying to alleviate the issue.

We do believe we have the ability to help. I think this is a couple of years until you are totally able to address it. It just takes a couple of years to build capacity.

The chip makers are currently spending huge amounts of money making new facilities that will speed up manufacturing. That means there will also be new hirings. Aside from this, Nvidia is also concerned about its GPU availability, expecting the GPU shortage to continue for the majority of 2021. It’s tough, and being a PC gamer myself, I am scared.
