Hydrapple Lands in Pokémon GO, But PvP Fans Will Be Underwhelmed

New Grass/Dragon Hydrapple arrives in Pokémon GO and shows limited PvP upside across Great, Ultra, and Master Leagues.

Hydrapple has arrived in Pokémon GO, bringing a Grass and Dragon hybrid into PvP play as of October 7, 2025. Trainers and PvP analysts have been testing its stat spread, typing, and moveset to figure out whether it can actually compete with relatives like Flapple and Alolan Exeggutor.

Quick snapshot

Hydrapple offers solid raw stats and a familiar move pool, but early results show it mostly wins where Grass/Dragon naturally hard-counters Ground and Water types. Real momentum in the meta is missing, because the best fast move and charge moves it currently has leave it trailing peers more often than not.

Stats and moves

Hydrapple’s best Great League Stats

Attack Defense HP
122 (118 High Stat Product) 111 (144 High Stat Product) 136 (138 High Stat Product)
  • (Highest Stat Product IVs: 0-14-12, 1499 CP, Level 17.5)

Hydrapple’s best Ultra League Stats

Attack Defense HP
158 (155 High Stat Product) 141 (145 High Stat Product) 178 (179 High Stat Product)
  • (Highest Stat Product IVs: 0-15-14, 2500 CP, Level 29)

Hydrapple’s best Master League Stats

Attack Defense HP
194 169 210
  • (Assuming 15-15-15 IVs; 3656 CP at Level 50)

Hydrapple’s total stat spread sits very close to Florges overall, with slightly higher Attack and a swapped Defense/HP relationship. Master League max CP is nearly identical to Florges, and stats edge out some other Grassy Dragons like Flapple and Alolan Exeggutor, but Hydrapple still ranks below many meta Dragons in raw stat product.

Typing and resistances

Grass/Dragon typing offers a useful toolbox. Double resistances to Grass and single resistances to Water and Electric are helpful, along with a Ground resistance. Drawbacks include double weakness to Ice, and single weaknesses to Dragon, Fairy, Poison, Flying, and Bug.

Fast Moves

  • Dragon Tail – Dragon type, 3.0 DPT, 4.0 EPT, 1.5 CoolDown
  • Bullet Seed – Grass type, 1.66 DPT, 4.33 EPT, 1.5 CD
  • Rollout – Rock type, 2.33 DPT, 4.33 EPT, 1.5 CD

Dragon Tail is the consistent top choice in current PvP testing. Rollout and Bullet Seed fail to outperform Tail in practical matchups.

Charge Moves

  • Seed Bomb – Grass type, 90 damage, 55 energy
  • Outrage – Dragon type, 110 damage, 60 energy

Seed Bomb is mandatory for non-Dragon pressure and its faster energy cost. Outrage pairs well with Dragon Tail thanks to energy synergy and higher Damage Per Energy than Dragon Pulse.

Great League

Hydrapple racks up predictable wins versus Ground and Water types like Feraligatr, Blastoise, Gastrodon, Marowak, Stunfisk, Diggersby, and Steelix. A handful of oddballs such as Furret, Dunsparce, and Shadow Annihilape also fall, but many common meta threats resist or outpace Hydrapple. Comparative testing suggests Flapple remains the slightly better candy sink for PvP because Dragon Breath and Fly give it versatility that Hydrapple lacks.

Ultra League

Performance mirrors Great League. Hydrapple beats a number of Ground and Water picks and can threaten Drapion, Nidoqueen, Runerigus, Lapras, and Armored Mewtwo sometimes. Several clean losses against Virizion, Skeledirge, Talonflame, and others keep it from breaking into the core Ultra League meta.

Master League

High max CP gives Hydrapple an edge over Flapple and Alolan Exeggutor in Master League. Victories appear against Kyogre, Zarude, Rhyperior, Landorus, Zekrom, and Kyurem Black, mainly thanks to Grass super effectiveness and the Dragon factor. Limitations show when facing the heavier-hitting Dragons and bulky counters that neutralize or punish Hydrapple’s moveset.

Outlook

Hydrapple would benefit from a better fast move like Dragon Breath or one of its signature moves: Grass-type Syrup Bomb or Dragon-type Fickle Beam. Non-signature options such as Grassy Glide or Dragon Cheer could also change usability. At launch, none of those are available, leaving Hydrapple stuck with Dragon Tail as the best practical option.

Bottom line

Hydrapple arrives with decent stats and a clear niche as a hard counter to certain Water and Ground threats. Greater PvP relevance will require either better fast moves or signature/alternative charge moves. Current testing places Hydrapple behind Flapple and many established meta picks across capped leagues, leaving it short of true breakout status.
