Techland has cleared up the confusion about who can grab Dying Light: The Beast for free when it launches on August 22. If you’ve been wondering whether owning Dying Light 2: Stay Human means you get the new game without paying extra, here’s the scoop that might brighten your day.
Originally planned as an expansion for Dying Light 2, The Beast is now a standalone release. This shift left many fans scratching their heads, wondering if their previous purchase would cover the new game.
Who Gets Dying Light: The Beast for Free?
Techland posted on Reddit, clarifying how the free access works. Here’s the deal:
If you bought the base version of Dying Light 2: Stay Human and later upgraded to the Ultimate edition, you will get Dying Light: The Beast free of charge. The game will just pop up in your game library on whatever platform you purchased Dying Light 2.

Even if you already own the Ultimate edition from the start, you will automatically receive The Beast without paying extra.
Interestingly, Techland removed the Ultimate edition of Dying Light 2 from sale when they announced The Beast. You can’t buy that Ultimate edition anymore, and it would have cost about the same as purchasing The Beast outright.
Speaking of which, Dying Light: The Beast will be priced around $59.99 when it launches. If you’re eyeing the Deluxe Edition of The Beast with all the extra content, you’ll have to wait until after launch to upgrade, as Techland mentioned some ‘technical issues’ are holding up that option for now.
