Grounded 2 has added bug mounts called buggies, and the first one you unlock is the soldier ant during the Egg Hunt mission. Finding the red soldier ant egg is tougher than it seems because the Hatchery Anthill is dark and crawling with ants ready to defend their eggs.
So, where exactly do you find this elusive egg? Let me walk you through the steps to grab your first soldier ant egg and get your buggy started.
Red Soldier Ant Egg Location in Grounded 2
- Head into the Hatchery Anthill through the South Entrance, just like the quest tells you.
- Take the left path and go down. Follow the colorful cables on the ceiling and the thick grey tube on the ground. If you check your map, this path leads north.
- At a ladder next to a light, turn left.
- When you reach an Ominent checkpoint at a fork in the tunnel where all cables meet, go left. The right side is blocked by roots anyway.
- Enter the Ominent facility at the bottom of the anthill and walk through the doorway behind the projection of the soldier ant egg. Warning: If you turn right before entering, you’ll face a scary robotic spider. So don’t do that.
- Grab one of the red soldier ant eggs resting on a small metal trolley at the back of the cave.
- Carefully carry the egg back the way you came. You can’t attack while holding it, so watch out for ants.
- Bring the egg to your hatchery to incubate it for 12 in-game hours.
Incubating the egg isn’t just about having it, you’ll need some saddle ingredients too:
- 2x grub hide: Use your shovel on moving dirt patches to dig up grubs, then kill and loot them.
- 3x sprigs: These small twin-leaf plants grow in grassy areas like outside the Ranger Outpost: Snackbar.
- 1x acorn shell: Break open acorns and grab the shells. You can find acorns just north of the Ranger Outpost: Snackbar.
Once the egg hatches, you’ll have your very first buggy, a red soldier ant that’s solid at harvesting, hauling, building, and even a bit of combat. Pretty handy, right?
If you want more eggs, you can revisit the Hatchery Anthill or check the Toxic Anthill under the Picnic Table area. The eggs there are the same as the one from the Egg Hunt mission.
Yikes, carrying that egg without being able to attack sounds stressful. But hey, it’s worth it for that buggy boost!
