Battlefield REDSEC is the name of Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale, and it goes live Oct. 28 at 10am CT. This guide walks through the download steps, basic requirements, and where to look so you can jump into the chaos without hunting through menus like a lost recon drone.
Quick download steps
REDSEC is a separate install from the main Battlefield 6 package. To get it:
- Open your platform storefront – Steam, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, or the EA Play app.
- Search for “Battlefield REDSEC“. It should be listed as its own free-to-play title, not tucked inside the BF6 launcher.
- Select and download. Expect a sizable file; allow time for the download and any day-one updates.
On PlayStation 5 the BR entry appears directly in the Store browse. Other platforms behave the same; if you don’t see it immediately, give the storefront a minute to index the new listing.
Launch times by region
- Central (US): 10am CT
- East Coast (US): 11am ET
- West Coast (US): 8am PT
- United Kingdom: 3pm GMT
- Central Europe: 4pm CET
- Australia (Sydney): 2am AEDT (Oct. 29)
- Japan (Tokyo): 12am JST (Oct. 29)
Storage, accounts, and requirements
REDSEC’s initial download size is similar to the main game. Keep at least 35 to 40 GB of free space available; the exact size may vary by platform and with updates. An EA account is required to play and download across platforms. Create a new account or manage your account on the EA official website.
If the full Season 1 content or the 1.1.1.0 update hasn’t appeared right away, don’t panic. The BR landing is part of the Season 1 update rollout, and the storefront listing or in-game access may take a short while to populate after the patch drops. We previously covered the free-to-play REDSEC launch in detail, including the timing of the Season 1 update. Pro tips – if you want to reduce wait time: start the download before expected peak hours, verify that your platform’s background download settings are enabled, and double-check any console power/sleep settings that pause large downloads.
Questions about the rollout or patch timing are standard. We also have an update breakdown that notes when the Season 1 update and hotfix arrive, which can help if features or playlists are delayed after REDSEC goes live.
