Hideo Kojima Updates Death Stranding 2 Player Stats: 79.5% Keep Playing After the Ending

Hideo Kojima just set the record straight about how many players are sticking with Death Stranding 2 after finishing the main story. Turns out, it’s not 79% like he first said, but 79.5%, a slightly bigger number, but hey, that extra half percent counts when you’re talking about a game with such a dedicated fanbase.

So yeah, he kinda goofed but was quick to correct himself on Twitter, flexing that more players than expected have reached the ending and are still hooked. The director’s message? “Please keep enjoying the game!” And honestly, who wouldn’t want to keep playing a 35-hour cinematic action experience that can stretch over 100 hours if you’re chasing every little collectible and trophy?

Death Stranding 2 isn’t your average run-and-done game. According to How Long to Beat, it clocks in around 35 hours for the main story, but for those die-hard completionists, it can go beyond 100 hours. That’s a serious time investment, and the fact that nearly 80% of players are still engaged after the credits rolled is kinda wild.

One fan on Twitter summed it up perfectly: “I finished DS2 this past weekend. And I also kept playing because I’m preparing to get the platinum trophy. What a Kojima ending… that feeling of wanting more from the story is just like when I finished DS1.” Wow, talk about sticking power!

So what’s next? Kojima’s already teasing his next project, OD, which he says will be “something totally different” and that fans will either “love it or hate it.” But he adds the real verdict will come “10 or 20 years from now.” Guess he’s playing the long game again.

What do you think about these numbers? Are you one of the 79.5% still playing Death Stranding 2?
