Here are the December 2024 Game Pass Departures

The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes a reminder that not all gifts last forever. As we cozy up in our gaming chairs, clutching controllers like life rafts, Microsoft has decided to shake things up by announcing the titles to leave Xbox Game Pass this December. It’s a bittersweet affair, especially for those who have been knee-deep in these digital adventures.

What’s Leaving?

First off, let’s break down the list of games that will be making their exit from the service:

  • Alien Isolation
  • Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
  • GreedFall
  • The Long Dark
  • Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition

This lineup features some heavy hitters. Who can forget Alien Isolation’s spine-tingling terror or Dragon Quest XI’s epic quest? These titles have provided countless hours of entertainment and frustration (looking at you, GreedFall), but they are on borrowed time.

Let’s talk about why this matters. On one hand, it’s not uncommon for streaming services, even game ones, to rotate their libraries. This keeps things fresh and enticing for subscribers. But then again, losing beloved games can feel like getting kicked out of your favorite bar right before happy hour starts. Sure, new drinks are coming in next week, but do they hit quite as hard as your usual order?

You might argue that this turnover encourages players to dive into these games before they vanish. After all, nothing lights a fire under your gaming butt quite like a deadline. But if you’re someone who takes their sweet time savoring every moment in an RPG or planning out strategies in a survival game? Well then, my friend, you might rush through experiences you’d prefer to enjoy leisurely.

If any titles here caught your eye (or heart), now is prime time to give them a go before they’re gone! It also raises questions about how many folks will purchase these gems outright instead of letting them slip into gaming history.
