Rockstar Games might be about to shake things up in GTA Online with a new age verification system. This move could block younger players from accessing certain features just before GTA 6 arrives in 2026. It’s a pretty big deal because GTA has always been known for its mature content, and now, things might get a bit stricter.
Age verification has been gaining traction lately, especially in the UK where it’s mandatory for adult content. This has already affected gaming, like Xbox asking players to prove their age to keep social features, and even Death Stranding fans using the game’s graphics to get around checks. So, Rockstar jumping on this trend isn’t totally surprising.
According to a trusted GTA leaker named Tez2, Rockstar is planning to introduce these age assurance checks regionally. He mentioned on Twitter that you might have to verify your age to get into GTA Online or unlock features like phone messages, text chat, and Snapmatic. He even shared in-game file screenshots showing messages that pop up when features are blocked due to lack of age verification.
Jokes aside, Rockstar is planning to implement age assurance checks in the near future, rolling them out by region.

Interestingly, this won’t just be a UK thing. Tez2 says Rockstar can target specific regions, though he’s not sure which ones besides the UK will be first. So yeah, this might become a global standard.
Now, here’s the thing: GTA is known for its adult themes and open-world chaos. Blocking parts of the game until you verify your age could change how some players experience it. Plus, since GTA Online is now free to download, it’s easier than ever for underage players to jump in without restrictions. This age check might help keep the game more age-appropriate.
But when exactly will this happen? No clue yet. Rockstar hasn’t said a word officially, so treat this as a rumor for now. Still, it’s kinda wild to think about how much this could affect the community, especially with GTA 6 coming soon.
What do you think? Will this age verification stop underage players or just annoy the rest of us? Either way, I’m curious to see how strict Rockstar will get and if it changes the vibe of GTA Online forever.
