On May 2, Rockstar Games confirmed what many feared: GTA 6 won’t arrive until May 26, 2026. This pushed the launch further than some expected, especially after Take-Two, Rockstar’s publisher, had expressed confidence in a 2025 release.
Rockstar’s silence since the trailer dropped late last year and reports of missed internal deadlines made the delay less surprising. Yet, some fans noticed subtle hints Rockstar might have left behind.
Hints Pointing to the Delay
One interesting detail is that the release date aligns with the funeral of Bonnie and Clyde, the infamous criminal couple. The game’s story is rumored to echo their tale, with protagonists Jason and Lucia stepping into similar roles.
Fans like CYBER BOI pointed this out on social media, sparking debate about whether it’s a coincidence or design. One fan remarked, “If not intentional, that’s an insane coincidence lol.” Another replied, “Definitely intentional.”
GTA 6, May 26th.
Same date as Bonnie & Clyde's funeral.
We know the game is loosely based on Bonnie & Clyde. pic.twitter.com/REfI1MXmeA

Another fan, FriendlyAaron1, noticed that the lyrics of the song “Red” from Red Dead Redemption 2 seem to hint at the same date. The line “seven months gone and seven years to go,” when added to RDR2’s October 26, 2018 release, points to May 26, 2026.
I JUST FUCKING REALIZED THAT THE LYRICS TO THE RDR2 SONG "RED" BY DANIEL LANOIS CORRECTLY GUESSES THE LAUNCH DATE OF GTA VI 😭

Rockstar explained the delay by saying they need more time to “deliver at the level of quality” fans “expect and deserve,” promising to share more details soon.
