Grand Theft Auto 6 has been postponed to May 2026, which might be positive news for Battlefield fans anticipating the next installment. The new Battlefield game is expected before March 31, 2026. It will return to the current setting and remove features that alienated some players in Battlefield 2042, such as 128-player lobbies and Specialists.
Several clips of ‘Battlefield 6’ gameplay footage have circulated, receiving positive reactions. The release date had been uncertain, especially with GTA 6’s launch approaching, but Rockstar’s delay to May 26, 2026, opens a window for Battlefield to possibly release in late 2025.
GTA Delay Opens Door for Next Battlefield’s Release
During a February 2025 investors call, EA stated that Battlefield’s release timing depends on other major game launches this year.
CEO Andrew Wilson said, “We, of course, want to make sure that we launch that into a window where we can deliver on the fullness of the promise of what Battlefield can be and grow the community to a level that is commensurate with the size of the game that we’re making.”
He added, “I do believe that this year might be a nuance to year relative to competition. There may be some things happening in the year that may cause us to think differently about our launch timing.”
While he didn’t mention GTA 6 directly, it was the most major title expected in that timeframe.
“If we got close to that time frame and believe that this wasn’t going to be a great window for us, then we would take a look at what an alternate window might be that would give us the appropriate time, energy and player acquisition opportunity for this Battlefield to be all that it needed to be,” Wilson concluded.
With GTA 6 now delayed until May 2026, Battlefield will likely aim for its usual fall release window, assuming the game is ready. Historically, Battlefield titles have launched in the fall, often competing directly with Call of Duty. For example, Battlefield 2042 was released just a week after Call of Duty: Vanguard.
We will have to wait for EA to announce a release window for Battlefield, but the delay of GTA 6 may free up more games to target fall 2025.
