Grand Theft Auto 6 might be a couple of years away, but that hasn’t slowed down the sales of its predecessor, GTA 5. Released in 2013, this game sells copies at a rate that most titles can only dream of, even more than a decade later.
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive recently shared an update revealing that GTA 5 has sold an astonishing 215 million units. Every financial report seems to add another five million copies sold, showing no signs of slowing down.
For example, in February 2024, GTA 5’s sales increased by five million quarter-over-quarter, and the same happened again in November 2024. This means the game is still outselling many newer titles over their entire lifetimes.
It’s pretty remarkable for a 12-year-old game to maintain such momentum, and this trend is expected to continue until GTA 6 arrives in May 2026.
Take-Two’s recent financial update also highlighted the massive excitement around GTA 6. The new trailer broke records with over 475 million views in 24 hours, showing how eagerly fans await the next chapter.
Meanwhile, GTA 5 remains the best-selling game in the United States over the past decade, which is no small achievement.
Rockstar’s Red Dead series is also doing well, having sold over 100 million copies. Fans are still hoping for a 60 FPS update for Red Dead Redemption 2, which would be a welcome improvement.
