MADFINGER Games revealed on Friday that Gray Zone Warfare’s next major update beyond 0.4 will be numbered 0.5 and is expected to introduce a hideout system plus in-game crafting. The studio has not attached a release date to 0.5.
The proposed additions extend the franchise of player bases that have appeared already in the game. Players should get a more permanent, customizable place in the world of Lamang where they can store, modify, and craft equipment from gathered resources instead of only buying or finding loot in the field.
Hideouts, placement, and what crafting might mean
Details for the hideout feature are still thin. It is not yet clear whether hideouts will be integrated into the faction bases and combat outposts added since the game’s launch in April 2024, or if MADFINGER will let players deploy hideouts around the open world as standalone locations.
The crafting side of 0.5 would let players combine materials and components to make weapons and gear. The announcement frames the mechanic as granting players the ability to manufacture their own items with in-game resources and workbenches rather than relying solely on purchased or scavenged equipment.
Developers compared the idea to how other games handle safe zones and forward bases. For example, ARC Raiders places the player hideout in Speranza and uses it as the mission launch hub. Escape from Tarkov and Incursion: Red River also use player hideouts and base systems as core progression anchors.
The 0.5 plan builds on changes already arriving in 0.4. MADFINGER said the 0.4 update is a substantial patch that alters many core systems, adds 100 new tasks, introduces new movement mechanics and biomes, and brings other large gameplay shifts. The studio described 0.4 as making the project feel like “a new game.”
