Gloomwood has just received an update that expands its research system, introducing headshot bonuses and fresh ways to interact with its eerie creatures. This update is neat because it adds permanent perks from dissecting monsters and even changes parts of the game world based on your progress.
Previously, the research update let you dissect monsters and inject their juices to gain temporary powers. Now, spending time in your lab can earn you permanent passive bonuses. For example, dissecting crowmen grants a speed boost when holstered, bat barbers increase your jump height, and goatmen provide damage reduction. The latest addition is the ability to research huntsmen, which unlocks the Huntsman’s Mark. This passive bonus allows you to land essential headshots on huntsmen, watching their witch hunter hats fly off in a fountain of blood is quite the sight, believe it or not.
Dissecting huntsmen also rewards you with syringes of their juice, which, when injected, give you a life-detecting power. This turns the world black and white but highlights enemies behind walls with glowing fog, somewhat reminiscent of certain Elder Scrolls games. It’s a handy tool if you want to stalk your prey a little easier.
The update also enables the injection of multiple doses of specific serums. It enhances the readability of labels on empty monster part jars, which significantly helps in keeping track of research ingredients. Another interesting change is that the world reacts more to your story progress; revisiting specific locations will show different weather, music, and even new monsters that appear only once. So if you’re the kind of player who likes to clear every enemy, you can still do that, but the world feels a bit more alive.
Looking ahead, the developers teased a third research update, but before that, they’re shifting the focus to something different: exploring the rooftops of Hightowne. That sounds like a fun change of pace, right?
Overall, this update adds a bit more depth and atmosphere to Gloomwood, blending satisfying combat bonuses with creepy, scientific experimentation. What do you think about these new research perks? Are you excited to chase headshots and see those hats fly?
