Ghost of Yotei made its presence felt at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a fresh trailer that puts the spotlight on Atsu, a mercenary bent on revenge. The sequel to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima is will launch on October 2nd, 2025, and judging by this new look, it might just carve its own legacy.
Set more than 300 years after the events of Tsushima, players take control of Atsu, who’s hunting down the Yotei Six, the ruthless figures responsible for her family’s destruction and scars. The trailer throws you right into her world, showing off a mix of brutal combat and stealth tactics across a sprawling open world. You can charge headfirst or sneak around, with an arsenal that now includes the chain-blade kusarigama and the spear-like yari.
The trailer’s highlight is Atsu confronting the Yotei Six in a gritty, blood-soaked showdown. She’s out for redemption, and the game promises to deliver that with varied approaches to combat and exploration. Interestingly, a teaser at the end reveals that a free multiplayer mode called Legends will be available in 2026. Yeah, free multiplayer — guess they’re preparing to keep the momentum going beyond launch.
While Atsu steps into the spotlight instead of Jin Sakai, Ghost of Yotei borrows heavily from its predecessor’s formula. The mix of stealth, open-world freedom, and action combat stays intact, but with new weapons and presumably new challenges. You have to wonder if this sequel can match the acclaim of Ghost of Tsushima, which, despite dropping in a crowded 2020, snagged multiple Game of the Year nods, including from The Game Awards. High bar, huh?
Fans of the original are probably wondering if Atsu’s story will hit the same emotional beats. Will the new weapons and fresh enemies add enough spice? Or is this just a retread? Only time will tell, but it’s clear Sucker Punch is doubling down on what worked.
