Ddid you hear the news about Gearbox Entertainment? Yeah, the folks behind Borderlands. They’ve just been handed off from Embracer Group to Take-Two Interactive for $460 million. With Embracer cutting jobs left and right, you’d think Gearbox would be safe now, right? Not so fast.
As soon as the ink dried on the deal, word got out that Gearbox was trimming its own team. A few of the PR crew, among others, shared their layoff news on social media. It’s kind of ironic, isn’t it? The PR folks had to announce their own exits.
Jennifer Locke, one of the PR Managers, shared a heartfelt thanks for her time at Gearbox on X/Twitter, alongside many others finding themselves job hunting. Imagine going from promoting the next big game to updating your LinkedIn with “Open to Work” overnight. Steve Prince and Chris Harada, big names over there, got the same shock.
Along with countless others, I've just been informed I've been laid off at Gearbox. It really was a dream come true working on this team, and I'm incredibly grateful for my time here.
I'll be making another pinned post that I'm ✨️ looking for work ✨️

It’s still unclear how deep these layoffs cut and who was affected. But they’re a reminder of how unpredictable working in the gaming industry can be. One day, you’re part of launching epic titles, and the next, you’re on the lookout for the next gig.
