With Cyberpunk’s buggy and controversial launch for the Xbox One and PS4, Microsoft and Sony opened a refund system for digital copies of the game. Cyberpunk 2077 was also removed from the PlayStation Store because many of these problems were mostly happening on the PS4.
Waypoint’s Patrick Klepek recently wrote in a Twitter post that GameStop has started to accept refunds for Cyberpunk 2077. According to the Twitter post:
Multiple GameStop employees have shown me a memo indicating the company is now accepting returns of Cyberpunk 2077, even if it’s been opened.
What’s really surprising is that they’ll accept your game even if you’ve already opened it, which is great if the game hasn’t really lived up to your expectations upon trying it. Klepek was also asked how this would affect the game’s sales:
It would be reasonable to think the refunds are in the hundreds of thousands, at least. Whether the game is no longer profitable, I don’t know? In unprecedented territory.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released more than a week ago, and it’s available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia. Following its disappointing launch for older-gen consoles, CD Projekt Red has gotten themselves into a lot of controversies, and they could be facing a potential lawsuit because of their “misrepresentation to receive financial benefits.”
