The latest Games Done Quick event has ended, raising more than $2.5 million to fight cancer. Awesome Games Done Quick took place between January 5-12, and consisted of more than 130 speedruns. By the time the event ended on Sunday, the total amount raised was $2,556,305, with the money going to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

As noted on Reddit by Thorebane, who keeps track of stats for Games Done Quick, the organization has now raised more than $54 million for charity since it started 15 years ago, with more than $26 of this going to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The latest marathon opened on Sunday with a run of the original Pikmin on Switch which was completed in around an hour.

Among the more than 130 games featured over the course of the week were Portal 2, Astro Bot, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, UFO 50, Metroid Prime, Horizon Forbidden West, Silent Hill 2, and Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

The marathon concluded early on Sunday morning with a four-player race on SNES classic Super Metroid featuring a map randomizer that increased difficulty for competitors.

This year’s event included several offbeat challenges as well. One player managed to defeat bosses from Elden Ring using a saxophone controller while another played Crazy Taxi accompanied by a live band.

In closing remarks shared via social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit after AGDQ’s culmination – participants expressed gratitude towards supporters whose contributions made this charity initiative successful. Participants also hinted at future events, including SGDQ (Summer Games Done Quick), which are anticipated later in July.
