G2 kicked off their IEM Cologne 2025 run with a 2-0 win over FURIA, taking maps Dust2 (13-11) and Inferno (13-8). This victory puts G2 in a good spot to meet the winner of Astralis vs. Vitality in the upper bracket, while FURIA will face the loser in the lower bracket.
FURIA struggled on their T side of Dust2, running into a G2 team firing on all cylinders. Players like malbsMd, huNter-, and MATYS all had multi-kills that helped G2 build a strong 9-3 lead early on.
Even though G2 had their own struggles on offense, FURIA’s aggressive CT plays made things tough. Still, G2 managed to push through with some scrappy executes to close out Dust2.
Inferno saw a better T side from G2, who repeatedly attacked FURIA’s B site. Despite YEKINDAR having a tough time anchoring B, G2’s entries with malbsMd were a constant threat. FURIA tried to fight back, but some bad buy rounds and a clutch 1v5 from huNter sealed their fate.
G2’s 2-0 win was well deserved against a FURIA squad that’s been improving steadily. MATYS was solid on both defense and offense. Hunter called a strong T-side on Inferno, and MalbsMd’s opening kills were crucial throughout the series.
G2 now looks ahead to a tough upper bracket match against the winner of Astralis vs. Vitality. Will they keep this momentum going? I’m curious to see how they handle the pressure!
