It’s been almost three years since we last laid eyes on anything from Everwild, and just when you think it’s all but forgotten, bam! Rare hits us with some fresh artwork. It’s like finding an old game tucked away in the back of your shelf that you’ve meant to revisit!
This week, Rare shared their first new art piece for Everwild, and honestly, it feels like a breath of fresh air. The timing is perfect, too, considering the holiday vibe we’ve got going on. Could this mean they’re gearing up to ramp up the marketing? Maybe we’ll finally see more about this elusive Xbox exclusive in 2025!
The game was initially announced back in November 2019—a lifetime ago in gaming terms—and we were treated to another trailer in July 2020. But then? Crickets! Updates have been as rare as hen’s teeth. This latest peek came via an Instagram Christmas card featuring some festive-themed Everwild art, which is just delightful!

If you remember back in 2021, sources hinted that the game’s design had to be basically “restarted from scratch.” Yikes! That means we might not see it until several years down the line. At one point, there was talk of aiming for a 2024 release, but with how things have gone so far… well, let’s say I wouldn’t hold my breath.
XBOX‘s former Game Studios head Matt Booty also mentioned that they want to make sure they’ve got “something special” before showing off more gameplay. Honestly? I can respect that approach. Who wants to share half-baked ideas?
