Hangar 13 will release the Free Ride update for Mafia: The Old Country on PS5 tomorrow, 20 November 2025. The patch opens the map for free roam and populates Sicily with activities, rewards and new ways to play the base game.
Free Ride runs separately from the main story and lets players revisit the world in a self-guided way. While exploring Sicily, players will find horse races, car races, and instance Challenges that test combat and stealth. Successful runs earn Dinari, which can be spent on outfits, cars, charms, weapons, and more. The update also adds new map locations and some hidden secrets, as the developer keeps them under wraps in its PlayStation Blog post.
First-person driving arrives with tomorrow’s update, and a Photo Mode is included for people who want to frame their rides. There is also a Cinema Siciliano option that applies a black-and-white visual treatment and vintage audio to make the story feel like a classic Italian film. Free Ride also introduces a Classic difficulty that makes encounters more challenging.
Challenges are accessed by unlocking Hitching Posts and meeting contacts around the map. Content manager Peter Amato explained that Challenges are instanced and place players into combat locations or special world states when activated. Everything earned in Free Ride can be carried back into the main campaign so players can reach weapons and customization earlier than they might have otherwise.
The update follows the game’s originally contained narrative approach. For readers who want the background on that design choice, a link to our earlier coverage about the series returning to linear storytelling is available here. The publisher 2K has also described the title as a commercial success. If you have PS Plus Premium you can try Mafia: The Old Country with a Game Trial starting Friday, 21 November. The trial lets players sample the first few hours of the game.
