Fortnite Dataminers Reveal Pets Are Returning as Upgraded Companions

Fortnite's classic Pets might return soon as more interactive Companions in Chapter 6 Season 4.

Fortnite players who have missed the quirky Pets might get a fresh dose of them soon. Dataminers digging into the v37.00 update for Chapter 6 Season 4 have uncovered hints that these familiar little sidekicks are making a comeback, but not quite the way you remember.

Alongside the talk about proximity chat, a feature that’s bound to disrupt how players talk smack in-game, the files suggest Pets are evolving into something called Companions. These won’t just sit in your backpack like before. Instead, they might roam around your character’s feet, visible to you and your squad but cleverly hidden from enemies. Makes sense, right? No one wants a skateboarding turtle giving away their position while hiding behind cover.

Originally introduced in Season 6 back in 2018, Pets were a type of Back Bling that added personality but didn’t do much else. Over time, the game added some cool crossover Pets like Rocket Raccoon and Grogu from The Mandalorian, but new additions dried up.

Leakers, as reported by IGN, have spotted files showing Companions that include a golden retriever, a couple of pugs, a robotic dog inspired by the Cuddle Team Leader, and yes, that skateboarding turtle. Sounds adorable, but also kinda wild. Will these new buddies do more than look cute? Maybe they’ll have some interaction, or even a gameplay effect. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Epic Games hasn’t said a word about Companions yet, so no official release date or confirmation exists. They might drop this season or hold it for later. But given how Fortnite keeps pulling tricks to stay relevant while other battle royales fade, adding more ways to customize your character fits perfectly with their approach.

With Fortnite still holding strong in the battle royale scene, these revamped Companions could add a fun, personal touch that players will appreciate. Who wouldn’t want a robotic dog tagging along while you’re outbuilding and outshooting opponents? It’s kinda like having a teammate who never complains and always looks good.

What do you think? Are you excited to see Pets come back with a new twist, or do you think it’s just fluff? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
